This transfer was completed in July 2015 by the Navy Heritage and History Command Center and the Alice Dean has been recognized as an "Unanticipated Archaeological Discovery", a Civil War Artifact that lies within the Battle of Corydon Historic District, putting it on the National Registry of Historic Places. It will now be protected under the Sunken Military Crafts Act and the National Battlefield Protection Program.

The Navy and the State of Indiana have recognized my claim on the Alice Dean and have granted me permitting right to conduct invasive research on the Alice Dean Site. Plans are underway to do a magnetometer survey of the site, to be conducted by Cultural Resource Management in Lexington, Ky., and Cross Marine Salvage, out of Salt Lake City, Utah is working on with Brigham Young University Underwater Archeology Department to conduct a 3 day exploratory dive on the hull in late fall.

Please contact me at klrsnmrk@gmail.com or klrnsmrk@yahoo.com 502.802.6375Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09907629597801998604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998509848120209824.post-58873910580246890392014-07-06T07:05:38.969-05:002014-07-06T07:05:38.969-05:00The Original Alice Dean was owned by Captain James...The Original Alice Dean was owned by Captain James H. Pepper and Thompson Dean of Cincinnati. She was designed to be a luxury river ship and was very fast. Alice Dean was 182 feet long and 43 feet wide and with her 5 boilers and 34 feet diameter side-wheel Alice Dean was reported to have traveled from Memphis to Cincinnati in 2 days, 23 hours and 5 minutes. Captain Pepper did everything he could to protect his crew and ship, unfortunately Morgan ordered the graceful ship named after Thompson Dean's daughter scuttled and burned. She has been in her watery grave for over 151 years and finally in 2014 there is a local effort in Indiana to raise the remains of the Alice Dean and create a one of a kind, never before seen, unable to duplicated living history floating museum that ferries visitors over the Ohio River on the Alice Dean Floating Historical Museum just like General Morgan.
