Tombstone Tuesday - William C. Nelson

William C. Nelson's first marriage was to Martha M. Spell on 19 March 1868 in Livingston County, Kentucky. [1] His second marriage was to Mrs. Ellen Scyster Rappolee on 26 October 1876. [2]

In his obituary, William C. Nelson was listed as "C.W. Nelson of Birdsville, Ky."[3] His survivors included the widow, Mrs. Ellen Nelson; six children; one stepson; two sisters; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

According to his death certificate,[4] William C. Nelson was born 18 July 1840 and died 19 Mar 1928. His parents were listed as William Nelson and Eliza May, both of whom were born in Livingston County.

Etna Nelson was the daughter of John Ramage and Jane Gray.[2]  She appears as a 9 year old in the household of John and Elizabeth Ramage in Dyers Hill Precinct of Livingston County. [3]  

Miss Etna Ramage married Mr. C.C. Nelson 11 October 1873 at her home in Livingston County. [4]

Linna E. Doyle, daughter, was living in the household of James W. and Ella F. Doyle in Dyers Hill District of Livingston County, Kentucky on the 1900 census. 

Everette Lane Scyster Nelson, age two, died 13 October 1919 in Livingston County. He was the son of Everett Nelson and Linnie Doyle, according to his death certificate #28212 (1919).

Buchanan Nelson is listed as Barton B. Nelson on his death certificate. He was the son of Nathaniel Nelson and was born in Crittenden County. Mary Jane was the daughter of F.M. Stansbury and was born in Spencer County, Kentucky, according to her death certificate.

Buchanan Nelson and Miss Mary J. Standsberry were married at the home of the bride's father in Crittenden County by Dr. M. Bristow on 30 December 1885.

Nathaniel Nelson married Elizabeth Slayton 5 October 1840 Livingston County, Kentucky. Elizabeth's birth date is listed as 4 May 1822 and her death date as 22 June 1861 in Crittenden County Cemeteries, Vol. III, page 17 by The Crittenden County Genealogical Society, 2005.

On 7 April 1862, Nathaniel married Adaline Lynn Gill , the widow of Francis Gill. Nathaniel and Elizabeth had the following known children: William, Joseph, Serena, Sarah C., Lucenia, Virginia, Buchanan, James N. and Charles. Nathaniel and Adaline had no children.
