Spotlight On: W.L. and Willie M. Kennedy

According to his death certificate,[1] Wilkes Lee Kennedy was born near Lola to B.S. Kennedy and Martha Utz. His father was born in Crittenden County, Kentucky and his mother was born in Boone County, Kentucky. Byron S. Kennedy was listed as the informant on W.L. Kennedy's death certificate.

The 1880 Livingston County census shows Wilkes L. Kennedy as a family member in the household of Bayless S. and Martha Kennedy.[2] Bayless S. Kennedy (born 1823; died 1913) and Martha Utz Kennedy (born 1829; died 1912) are both buried in Hopewell Cemetery.[3]

Willie May Kennedy, a widow,  was age 71 years, 5 months and 3 days when she died on Oct. 1, 1948. Her parents were John Fowler and Sue Stephens, both of whom were born in Kentucky. Mrs. C.E. Babb was the informant on Willie May Kennedy's death certificate. [4]

Tombstone Tuesday - Thomas B. and Kittie Lee Rankin

Thomas B. Rankin was born 22 December 1856 Iowa; died 19 March 1939 Hardin County, Illinois, according to his death record.[1] His parents are listed as William Rankin and -- Prather.

According to her death certificate, Kittie Lee Rankin was born 19 January 1864 Lola, Kentucky and died 6 May 1937, also in Lola.[2] Her parents were Tolbert Foster and Elizabeth Tolley, both born in Lola.

The 1930 census shows Thomas B. Rankin, a house carpenter, and his wife, Kittie L., along with their son, Ward D. Rankin, age 29, living in Livingston County.[3]

Melva Blanche Sefrit was the youngest daughter of Herman Croft and Nettie C. Vaughn of Salem. William "Buck" Sefrit was the son of Weldon Sefrit and Sarah A. Wilson.

They were my aunt and uncle.

Weldon D. Sefrit was born in Illinois, the son of William and Emma Sefrit, both of whom were born in Indiana but later lived in Warren County, Illinois and Mahaska County, Iowa.

On 7 November 1908 in Livingston County, Weldon D. Sefrit married Sarah Adeline Wilson, daughter of William Henry Harrison Wilson and Sarah Elizabeth Gay, both of Livingston County. Sarah Adeline died 30 January 1922 and, on 6 July 1926, Weldon D. Sefrit married Sarah "Sallie" C. Fisher, daughter of Martin Van Buren Fisher and Mary Thompson.

I remember Mr. Sefrit and Aunt Sally. They are my cousin's grandparents.

According to his death certificate, Ruble L. Slayden died of influenza. His parents were C.E. Slayden, born Livingston County, and Ouida Davis, born Crittenden County.
