The Kentucky
Institution for the Education of the Blind was a boarding school with sessions
lasting ten months of the year. It was recommended that the blind children
should be sent to school between the ages of
8-10 as delaying after age 10 made it more difficult for
the child to learn. Each child returned home during the summer. At the Institution they were
provided wholesome food and received a sound English
education and training in music and instruction in handicrafts.
