An act to
establish the Western Kentucky Insane Asylum was passed in 1848 and the hospital
opened in Hopkinsville in 1854. It has been a psychiatric facility since it
opened. Admission to the hospital is usually through county or circuit court within the county of
residence. The following information is given: name of patient, county of residence, nativity, age; marital status, when admitted and by which court. Listed are patients from the following counties only: Trigg, Henderson, Caldwell, Crittenden, Union, Hopkins, Lyon and Webster only as those are the counties covered by this blog.
